The Greats Awards

Yesterday (4th May) we were in London for The Greats Awards for which we were a finalist in the cateogry of Independent Gift Retailer of the Year - South West.  We did not win but had a fantastic day and met some lovely other retailers with truly beautiful shops.  Seeing the other finalists we are even more proud of our achievement at being a finalist.  When you are travelling the country do check out the list of finalists (and winners) to see if any of the shops are nearby as you are certain to discover some gems. Here’s to the next 12 months and thank you to all of your for your support.

We are a finalist!

We are delighted to announce that we have been named as a finalist in The Greats Gift Retailer Awards 2017 in the cateogry of Independent Gift Retailer of the Year - South West.

This is a huge testament to the hard work of the Gift Shop Staff following the fire and we are very grateful to you, our customers, as without you we wouldn’t have a shop!

The press release from the organisers is below:

It's official! Heritage in Thornbury is one of the best gift retailers in the UK, and has been selected as a finalist in The Greats Gift Retailer Awards 2017.

The Greats Awards, now in their 15th year, were launched by Progressive Gifts & Home magazine to recognise and reward the UK's very best gift retailers across the retail spectrum.

"These dedicated awards for gift retailers have risen immeasurably in status over the years and are now universally acknowledged as being true accolades of excellence," commented Sue Marks, Editor of Progressive Gifts & Home. "Being selected as a finalist was a fantastic achievement. There was a huge entry this year, with some outstanding, first class entries."

All retail finalists were decided as a result of an industrywide poll of gift suppliers, reps and agents and validation by a panel of experts.

The winners of this year’s prestigious gift retailing Awards  - The Greats 2017 – will be revealed at an Awards lunch at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London, on Thursday May 4.

The Awards recognise and celebrate not only the top independent and multiple gift retailers regionally and nationally, but also outstanding retail employees.

11 months on

The fire which destroyed the Coffee Shop happened 11 months ago today.  The Coffee Shop may not be reopen just yet, but the rebuild is approaching the final stages. We will then be handed back the ‘shell’ to fit out so that it can operate as a Coffee Shop once more.  We took some comparison photos to show what the building is looking like today compared to the day of the fire.

Garden Inspiration

One of the products we currently have in the shop is a Grass Table Runner. We had some comments from customers that they didn’t know what they would do with it, so we ventured out into the garden (we need to get some use from it this summer!) to have a play using other products. Hopefully this slideshow will give you some ideas and inspiration for its potential.

Fire

6th September 2015

Dear all,

I had written a very different newsletter that was supposed to be sent out this weekend, but unfortunately this is the one I'm having to write instead.

As many of you will have already heard, on Saturday morning a fire started in an out-building of the Chip Shop next door and this spread over to Heritage. Although from the High Street the shop looks fine (if a bit wet) at the back it is a different story. The original seating area in the Coffee Shop no longer has a roof! The fire has also caused damage to other bits of roof and we haven't been able to investigate the toilets yet! We will be meeting with insurers, suppliers etc over the next few days to explore the way forward and to determine the full extent of the damage.

We will therefore be closed until further notice. Our hope is that we will be able to get the Gift Shop operating in some form sooner rather than later, the Coffee Shop will take longer as planning permission will be required for the repairs and there is significant debris to clear.

As you can imagine this has been a shock for us and the staff; we have had so many kind messages and are very grateful for them all and for your support over the past 18 months as we made the improvements to Heritage. We are also hugely grateful to all of the fire crews (9 engines and 2 support vehicles) as they prevented the damage being so much worse.

We look forward to serving you again and will keep you updated.
